Foraging a New Path

Deeper Into the Void de Selva

Clearing away old vines and encroaching shadows, it’s easy to get stuck on a certain plot running through the mind. A situation or scenario that has no real impact on the future, however continues molesting the current thought process. The idea of opening a new door, or creating one, get’s lost in the mist of the jungle’s air.

One positive day however can change the entire atmosphere, uncovering a way for new philosophies to entertain and pass the time. Diving into something of uncertainty can certainly provide the opportunity, if one is willing to take action that will create the possibilities.

Finding myself rather exhausted, choosing the machete of fire rather than swinging the blade manually, my secret mansion starts to form in the mind. A dream of creation at the hands of raking leaves, they provide all the fuel I could ever need. With a fractured ankle the need to remain calm while moving through the giant tree roots and foliage keeps the realm at ease, while the breeze demonstrates a tranquility as it crosses over the leaves.

Finding a teacher of quietude among nature that’s easy to enjoy, the best part, not a single narcissistic society dweller can suck out that supply. True freedom in that peace is something even the most sociopathic can’t take away, regardless of their futile attempts at robbing the smile de selva. Spending more time out here swinging from the trees, creating the vibe of growth as new ideas keep sprouting from the earth.

Sincerely,
Nagolbud

Slash, Burn, Grow

Trial Through the Machete of Fire

Attaching yourself to the negative outcome of a mistake, struggling to reflect, trying to grow out of the situation while watching nothing but weeds and cockroaches weave through your garden..

The cardboard cutout, feeling bad about personal fault, falling on pity as a false reality; a matrix of lies as the wheelbarrow rolls around the yard carrying piles of shit, contrary to word tricks, this helps establish new fertile ground for the fruits of yearning..

Burning away the mentality of obsessive focus on perfection from old mistakes, forgetting the past and moving forward with two plants in each hand ready to take root. Entering the time machine of remembrance, not just a mirrored shadow of the creature it’s become, a farmer in the making regardless of city regulations..

It’s easy to become apathetically jaded by the lie of regret, without self-reflection it becomes a cycle of torment. Even with self-reflection, it’s torment, but deciding to get off that bicycle, or on the bicycle in my case, is where every pirate can dig up the seeded booty of sun powered opportunity..

Reaching deep within the heart of knowing, pushing towards that goal of soul to achieve the philosophy wanted from an inspired dream. Hacking and slashing with the machete to discover the richness that darkness can bring, soil ready to unleash the fruits of yearning..

Sincerely,
Nagolbud

P.S. Next letter will include an update on the orange trees, cherry tomatoes, and butter avocado tree; always plant the seeds from the fruits and veggies you eat!

Beauty in a Bucket

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The jungle, and life in general, often surprises us with ups and downs. Whether through emotional entanglement or anger, it’s not always enjoyable to experience the ride. Feeling like quicksand, regardless of your actions, sinking deeper and deeper into the hole.

Perhaps the universe is trying to send a message, maybe teach a lesson, or it’s just the luck of the draw as the realm has fallen into an apocalypse of narcissism. We can’t control others, most of the time even ourselves, but our mentality can cling to the freedom of creativity as we embrace the storm.

As a friend handed me a gently wrapped critter in a t-shirt, I opened it up to find a baby owl who had banged its head against the side of a moving car door. Unable to fly he fluttered away in confusion trying to figure out what had just happened to him. Making chase before the dogs could do any damage, I was able to scoop it up and find a bucket of safety for the time being.

Only needing a few days of rest, feeding him anything at all was a failure to say the least. Hanging out with the pack while working on the computer, his big ol’ eyes reminded me of the beauty we often forget. Living in the now has its rewards, as long as we set some long term goals; pondering the survival of this little bird, I decided to get on with some yard work.

A day riding the weed whacker like a witch on a broom, buzzing the lawn and cutting down annoying plants trying to steal sunshine from my fruits and vegetables. Taking a few minutes to enjoy the breeze and my newly stacked compost pile, an itch reminded me of the present. Future goals would have to be put on hold as the Chechen tree encore started blasting, blisters and burns all throughout my feet, the Chaca tree would have to be my best friend yet again.

With the animals fed and the baby bunny barracks all set to roll, the rest of the day would be spent nursing my feet back to health as I scraped Chaca bark against my toes. Followed up with a refreshing aloe vera bath, paws in rough shape limping around the property like an old man. Evil trees with no regard for me, simply sharing its bounty with local birds as a main supply to their empty stomachs.

A natural gesture that the good often comes with the bad, suggesting we value the beauty in shared experience throughout the ugly times. If all else fails, always follow the white rabbit to prosperity, putting golden turd chunks on your freshly planted marijuanas.

Sincerely,
Nagolbud

Invasion of the Serpents

A Fight to the Death

It’s always interesting to see how others react when you have to kill something to protect your homestead animals. Some will say “well it’s the food chain” while others say “just re-locate the animal” and on and on the zombormie excuses go..

The reality is however, on my homestead, I am at the top of said “food chain” and my job is literally to protect my animals. Re-locating a pest predator is one of the worst things you can do as a responsible caretaker of the land, as you simply make the problem someone else’s. At the end of the day, it’s better to take care of the issue and utilize it for what you can. It’s just part of this lifestyle and taking responsibility for yourself and your own.

In this case, a nice meaty meal for the dogs, and a cool skin to remember the experience. This time, the boa had my rooster in a death hug, luckily I was doing yard work at the time and heard the commotion, running over with my machete I grabbed the vile beast and chucked it out from the brush and with a swift slice removed it’s head.

Later that day I walked outside and found another smaller one hanging out by the house, and in many cases, these snakes can hold venom. It’s not worth the risk for me or my dogs to lose a life over a stupid snake who will most likely try and eat my rabbits, chickens, ect. That same night, I spotted a coral snake as well, which is extremely venomous, heart racing, I decided to avoid that one for the night. All in all, 3 snakes in 48 hours with only a machete to decide the fate of us all. Until next time..

Sincerely,
Nagolbud

Critter Casas and Serpent Attacks

The thing I like most about homesteading will always be the outlet of fun and creativity that comes along with trying to grow your own food, raise animals, and provide proper setups for everyone along the way. The challenge always presents itself when you least expect it..

Mowing the lawn is usually quite relaxing, enjoying the breeze walking along, until you hear a squwaccck from the edge of the jungle. Running over, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Sure enough, a giant boa lay on the fence line wrapped around my helpless little chicken. Eyes giant as she looked up at me wondering what the heck was going on.

With no choice but to run for my machete, I started swinging at the snake without hesitation. Being careful not to hit the little lady, the snake finally let go and she was able to run off with her life. Angry at this attempt to kill one of my critters, I started slashing until the nasty thing slithered off into the jungle. Not sure if I killed it, but if I had gotten it on the spot, it would have been dinner for me and the dogs.

Here are some pictures from around the farm this week, designing and setting up a nice little rabbit house and a chicken ladder to provide a nice safe habitat for my buddies. Enjoy the pictures!

Sincerely,
Nagolbud
