Slash, Burn, Grow

Trial Through the Machete of Fire

Attaching yourself to the negative outcome of a mistake, struggling to reflect, trying to grow out of the situation while watching nothing but weeds and cockroaches weave through your garden..

The cardboard cutout, feeling bad about personal fault, falling on pity as a false reality; a matrix of lies as the wheelbarrow rolls around the yard carrying piles of shit, contrary to word tricks, this helps establish new fertile ground for the fruits of yearning..

Burning away the mentality of obsessive focus on perfection from old mistakes, forgetting the past and moving forward with two plants in each hand ready to take root. Entering the time machine of remembrance, not just a mirrored shadow of the creature it’s become, a farmer in the making regardless of city regulations..

It’s easy to become apathetically jaded by the lie of regret, without self-reflection it becomes a cycle of torment. Even with self-reflection, it’s torment, but deciding to get off that bicycle, or on the bicycle in my case, is where every pirate can dig up the seeded booty of sun powered opportunity..

Reaching deep within the heart of knowing, pushing towards that goal of soul to achieve the philosophy wanted from an inspired dream. Hacking and slashing with the machete to discover the richness that darkness can bring, soil ready to unleash the fruits of yearning..

Sincerely,
Nagolbud

P.S. Next letter will include an update on the orange trees, cherry tomatoes, and butter avocado tree; always plant the seeds from the fruits and veggies you eat!

Invasion of the Serpents

A Fight to the Death

It’s always interesting to see how others react when you have to kill something to protect your homestead animals. Some will say “well it’s the food chain” while others say “just re-locate the animal” and on and on the zombormie excuses go..

The reality is however, on my homestead, I am at the top of said “food chain” and my job is literally to protect my animals. Re-locating a pest predator is one of the worst things you can do as a responsible caretaker of the land, as you simply make the problem someone else’s. At the end of the day, it’s better to take care of the issue and utilize it for what you can. It’s just part of this lifestyle and taking responsibility for yourself and your own.

In this case, a nice meaty meal for the dogs, and a cool skin to remember the experience. This time, the boa had my rooster in a death hug, luckily I was doing yard work at the time and heard the commotion, running over with my machete I grabbed the vile beast and chucked it out from the brush and with a swift slice removed it’s head.

Later that day I walked outside and found another smaller one hanging out by the house, and in many cases, these snakes can hold venom. It’s not worth the risk for me or my dogs to lose a life over a stupid snake who will most likely try and eat my rabbits, chickens, ect. That same night, I spotted a coral snake as well, which is extremely venomous, heart racing, I decided to avoid that one for the night. All in all, 3 snakes in 48 hours with only a machete to decide the fate of us all. Until next time..

Sincerely,
Nagolbud

Critter Casas and Serpent Attacks

The thing I like most about homesteading will always be the outlet of fun and creativity that comes along with trying to grow your own food, raise animals, and provide proper setups for everyone along the way. The challenge always presents itself when you least expect it..

Mowing the lawn is usually quite relaxing, enjoying the breeze walking along, until you hear a squwaccck from the edge of the jungle. Running over, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Sure enough, a giant boa lay on the fence line wrapped around my helpless little chicken. Eyes giant as she looked up at me wondering what the heck was going on.

With no choice but to run for my machete, I started swinging at the snake without hesitation. Being careful not to hit the little lady, the snake finally let go and she was able to run off with her life. Angry at this attempt to kill one of my critters, I started slashing until the nasty thing slithered off into the jungle. Not sure if I killed it, but if I had gotten it on the spot, it would have been dinner for me and the dogs.

Here are some pictures from around the farm this week, designing and setting up a nice little rabbit house and a chicken ladder to provide a nice safe habitat for my buddies. Enjoy the pictures!

Sincerely,
Nagolbud
